FAQ's

Why face fit testing?

Fit testing is an element of the Respiratory Protection Program required for compliance with AS/NZ 1715:2009, for implementation where RPE is required to be worn.
The Work Health and Safety Regulation places responsibility on a person conducting a business to ensure respiratory protective equipment (RPE) is provided and appropriately worn by staff.  This includes being a suitable size, fit and reasonably comfortable for the worker who is to use or wear it.  Further information can be found here in this Queensland Government alert.

Fit testing should be conducted:

  • before a user first wears a tight-fitting respirator on a job
  • at least annually
  • whenever a different size, style, model or make of respirator is used
  • when any facial changes occur that could affect fit

What is quantitative fit testing?

Quantitative fit testing is considered the gold standard for workers exposed to hazardous particles in the workplace as it provides information about how well the respirator actually fits.  This eliminates the error associated with Qualitative fit-testing.
